Going the Extra Mile: Our Charity Challenge in Memory of Debbie
In December, our colleagues took on the Resource Reindeer Ramble, a fundraising challenge for Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, to honor our beloved late colleague, Debbie Bryden.
The challenge was simple: Cover 1,000 miles by walking, running or cycling, for every mile covered, Resource pledged to donate £1.
We smashed our 1000-mile target by the second week, so we decided to keep on rambling and see how far we could go. By the end of December, we had gone the extra mile—2,640 of them!
As part of the fundraiser, we set up a JustGiving page to give the people that knew Debbie an opportunity to support. Thanks to generous contributions from Resource, colleagues, family, clients, and suppliers, we raised an incredible £3,150.
This fundraiser is a testament to our appreciation for the amazing staff at Wheatfields Hospice that looked after Debbie and her family in her final days.
Clare Humphreys, Community Fundraiser: “Thank you so much for organising and taking on your Reindeer Ramble, challenge in memory of your friend and colleague, Debbie. On behalf of everyone at Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, thank you for your loving support and fundraising. Your support in this way truly means so much and I hope it bring comfort to know that in Debbie’s memory you are helping Wheatfields to make a real difference.”
The money raised will go towards supporting:
- The care of patients during their final days
- Bereavement counselling sessions for those experiencing grief
- Medical support equipment
- Specialist palliative trained Doctors and Nurses
Debbie fought a courageous battle over 18 months and has overcome many challenges along the way, both physical and emotional, however she always stayed positive with her lovely smile.
We’ll continue to remember Debbie each and every day, an incredible lady that had a massive influence on all of us at Resource.
